Jersey City, NJ, November 24, 2008 – Hudson Community Enterprises (HCE), a non-profit enterprise made up of innovative employment preparation programs and forward-thinking social enterprises that help persons with disabilities become self-sufficient, today announced CARF International awarded HCE a three-year accreditation, the highest level of accreditation. CARF is a respected international, non-profit accreditor of organizations providing services in the areas of rehabilitation, employment, child and family, and aging services. It sets high standards to which organizations must conform if they are to be accredited.
In an on-site CARF survey, HCE was evaluated in the areas of Business Practices, Quality of Individualized Services, and Employment Services. In the resulting survey report, HCE was commended with statements like “[staff members] display passion for their work, showing extreme dedication to persons served and commitment to providing them with excellent services” and their “ability to work with persons with a wide range of disabilities, showing enthusiasm and commitment while providing truly person centered , person focused services. Hudson Community Enterprises was complimented for its Hispanic Outreach Program and its continuum of services which offers a fluid pathway for persons served to develop and grow.” The survey report complimented HCE on “the valuable partnerships it has developed and nurtured with many local businesses and the community.”
The survey report from CARF singled out HCE’s outstanding leadership in that it is proactive, visionary, and responsive to the needs of persons served in the community and that “through strategic planning HCE has diversified its funding by developing and implementing social enterprises”
HCE is an innovative forward thinking organization that provides employment preparation for youth as well as adults in Hudson County. HCE President Maureen Walliser said, “HCE has a reputation for continually raising the bar in terms of the employment services that it offers and noted that this past year 17% of the individuals with disabilities that obtained jobs through HCE kept their jobs for one year, that 33% of those placed retained their jobs for three years, and that 50% kept their jobs for five years or better.” She said, “We are thrilled that CARF recognizes this and has awarded us their maximum accreditation for our work.”
In the survey report, CARF indicates that, “Persons served and employers speak enthusiastically about their satisfaction with the services provided by HCE. One employer stated that she “has found collaboration with HCE to be extremely positive and that the individuals that she has hired have been reliable and excellent workers.”
