Students for whom
job placement is recommended as part of their transition planning can be
referred to HCE for its job coaching program. This service offers support
to participating students with individualized pre-placement assistance
that addresses the job seeking skills needed to be successful in obtaining
employment. This may include,
but not be limited to assisting the participating student fill out job applications, arranging interviews, travel
training or assisting with the completion of any paperwork to secure the
position. Once pre-placement
services are provided and the individual student secures a job, the the job coach will then orient the participating student to the job. After the orientation is complete, the job coach will remain on the job with the individual student and provide basic training. The coach continues these post-employment services and works work with the individual student until the student is completely comfortable and knowledgeable about the job. Once the student and employer feel satisfied that the individual is self-sufficient on the job, the trainer fades out and assumes follow-up. The amount of pre-placement activities and job coaching activities will be tailored to meet the needs of students and will vary. Depending on the individual student’s transition needs, this coaching could involve several part time jobs throughout the school years.
